Even though I have not been YET to Tajikistan, I think it's the kind of country where knowing some Russian language changes very much (positively) your journey, rather than if you don't. That's what I felt when I visited Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. And when I spend months in Belarus.

There are people here defending american law, yadda yadda, and I don't fully disagree. But I have to put forward a little more insight, as I'm South American, Brazilian to be precise. Here in Brazil we have it kinda rough, some more than others. But the fact is, our government does what it can to screw us over as much as possible. I work IT and have it easier, and yet, feel I don't earn enough money to build anything meaningful. The point is, Brazil is kinda bad. But not Venezuela or Nicaragua bad. The circunstances in Brazil made me think of leaving numerous times, yet, as I said, I'm lucky enough to have enough resources to plan a legal migration to the USA should the need arise. Those Venezuelans for example. They do not have any chance of going in legal. There is no legal process for them. Nicolás Maduro has total control and rules with an iron fist. Staged ellections, corruption anywhere and everywhere. If you do not have connections, your only chance is through the Darien risking your life. If I had it as bad as they have, I would do the same thing. It is inhumane to live in a country that you have no chance of having a good life even if you work your ass off. A lot of those people would gladly be a simple waiter in the US, receiving only tips, than to live another day in their hellscape of a country. If we get into the hows and whys those countries got at this point, and why Brazil didn't but always seems to be leaning in that direction, I would write a book here. The conclusion is: have some compassion my dear american friends, I myself do not have it that bad, yet I see myself in those caminantes. And it hurts inside the soul to know the motives that got those people doing those things.
